Seinäjoki’s economy was based on the iron and gunpowder factories in 1798.
In 1931, it became became a market place before coming a city in 1960.
Now, this city has been oriented towards studies with a University named University of Applicates Sciences, which is one of the largest universities of Finland!
Many shops are here for the students with reduced prices with the student card like the train travel which are half the price.
Seinäjoki is a city that keeps its cultural origins especially with events like the Tangomarkkinat which a Tango festival is and the Provinssirock, the biggest rock festivals in Finland.
Seinäjoki is the financial office of Nordic Regional Airlines and the Head Office of Finncomm Airlines on the grounds of Seinäjoki Airport.
Atria Corporation's HeadQuarter is based in Seinäjoki and has a net sale of 1,316 milions euros in 2009 and employed 6,200 persons.
Seinäjoki is well known for his amount of SME and shop’s number for this small city.
