Teh Wappu

Hei kaikki ! (hello everyone! 😉)

So today we have to tell you our experiment about “The Vappu” a national celebration, which is, nowadays, more oriented for students. Let’s begin with a short history of this celebration:

Vappu is the festivity of the Memorial Day of Saint Labour holiday of spring and university students and also the workers international festival and demonstration day. It has also been celebrated in Finland since 1890m and in addition in any countries it has been paid day-off since 1918.

During our Vappu, the university organised a couple of activities from Wednesday 25th of April to Wednesday the 2nd of May, to participate, you paid 18€.

When you order the “Teh Wapu Pass”, they give you an event schedule with all the activities proposed, and an event wristband for the party of Monday 30th of April. What’s more, within the “Wappu Pass” there is a section reserved for all activities you have done during the week. Each activity that you have participated is checked by a stamp, and if you have a total of 7 stamps during the event, you receive a special patch celebrating the Wappu.

Also, during the event you have the opportunity to get two other patches, one of those by going to parties in karma (the most famous night club of SeinĂ€joki), and the other one by participate to an important race named Wappu GP. It’s a race /orientation trail, with some of weird and fun events to do in all bars of SeinĂ€joki, but we will maybe talk more about it in another article so be aware!

The celebration started inside the university by an “opening ceremony” with a Dj, balloons and a giant wall welcoming everyone to became at the party. Some hours later, we had participated to a bowling competition and finished by a party to karma. Wednesday 2nd of February, at the end of the celebration, we went also in karma, and it’s with pleasure that we finally get the last patch by accomplished 10 of the 14 activities that were proposed! 😊

The best team <3 special thanks to Anais for pictures
